As outlined in the last issue of Sonic Screwdriver, next year’s meetings are a trip through 50 years of our favourite show; each meeting devoted in part to a different era of Who‘s long history – commencing in February with a visit to the black & white era. Subsequent meetings will pass through the introduction of colour in the 1970s, the JNT-driven 1980s and the ‘wilderness years’ of the 1990s, before coming up to date with the revitalised series that hit our screens in 2005. It all culminates in November 2013 with a 50th Anniversary event, which will take the place of the usual Christmas party.
Of course, it’s not all about the history of the show – there’s lots of current Doctor Who with the second half of Season 7 still to screen, plus whatever’s lined up for the Anniversary – and the club meetings will include plenty of ‘non-themed’ panels, discussions and activities. As well as discussing the 2013 episodes, we’ll look at other series and how they influenced (or were influenced by) Doctor Who; uncover the history of Doctor Who video games; meet Doctor Who stars before they were famous; discuss the place of fan productions and Big Finish; and welcome the return of the Doctor Who game show!
