Of course, once the more serious side of this meeting is over, it will be back to our usual Whovianisms.

Guardians of the Galaxy Screening @ Hoyts Melbourne Central
Aug 9 @ 2:00 pm

This month’s first away meeting (as we have two this time around) is a screening of Guardians of the Galaxy which for those who do not know, features Karen Gillian.

As movie schedules have not yet been released for the weekend, PLEASE CHECK OUR FACEBOOK EVENT PAGE ON WEDNESDAY FOR UPDATES as this is where we will be posting the session details – https://www.facebook.com/events/682396048518741/

We will however be meeting at 2pm and be looking to attend a session around 3pm or later. This gives time to grab a bite to eat down at the food court or just chat, etc. We will be meeting in front of the Hoyts box office on Level 3 – to find us, look for someone with an Adipose plushie and a TARDIS!

(Doctor Who and) The Aztecs Exhibition @ Melbourne Museum
Aug 10 @ 2:00 pm

Unfortunately there won’t be any Doctor Who there, but we chose to have a second away meeting this month with the reason being that The Aztecs do indeed feature in a classic Doctor Who story.

We will be meeting at the front of the museum (outside, not in the foyer, although if you wait in the foyer, we’ll probably bump into you on the way in!).

Also, the museum is offering a deal on tickets to the exhibition at the moment where you can buy one ticket and get one free (so you can bring a friend or just split the cost with a fellow club member if you prefer so). All you have to do is mention the “bring a friend for free” promotion when you buy your ticket at the entry (see http://museumvictoria.com.au/melbournemuseum/visiting/aztecs-special-offer/ for more details).

Cost is $24 for adults, less for concession, but with the offer it’s only $12.

We’ll be meeting at 2pm and looking to go into the museum at around 2:30 (to allow time for people to buy their tickets and for latecomers). Find us by looking for someone holding an Adipose plushie and a TARDIS!

Deep Breath Cinema Screening – Cinema Nova @ Cinema Nova
Aug 24 @ 1:50 pm

Although this is kind of a last minute event, we’re going to have a couple of club away meetings for the Deep Breath cinema screenings on November 24. We’ve chosen a couple of session times and cinemas to allow for people to choose the one that suits them best.

WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU PRE-BOOK YOUR TICKETS AS PREVIOUS DOCTOR WHO SCREENINGS HAVE SOLD OUT!

http://www.cinemanova.com.au/catalogue/meet-the-filmmaker/doctorwhodeepbre

We will be attending the 1:50pm screening.

We do realize that some people may have booked their tickets already, but hope to see you there!

Who are you Supposed to Be – Melbourne Fringe Festival @ The Owl and The Pussycat
Sep 23 @ 8:00 pm – Oct 3 @ 9:00 pm

WHO ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO BE premiered at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival to enthusiastic audiences and great reviews. The UK team then took the show to London and played to packed houses.

WHO ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO BE is a romantic comedy for nerds. Set at a science fiction convention, Ash and Gene have a lot in common – but it’s their fundamental disagreements that are keeping them apart.

Starring Jennifer Lusk (who appeared in the show in Edinburgh) and Robert Lloyd (who saw the show in Edinburgh, where he was performing his own show Who, Me.), WHO ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO BE is “not just a boy-geek meets girl-geek love story, it’s also a story of acceptance, of everyone’s need for a “safe space” to allow them to be themselves and an accurate study in Ash of what it’s like to be a girl in a boy’s club.” (Cult Den)

It’s on at The Owl and the Pussycat from Sept 23 to Oct 5, 8pm. Cheap Tuesdays and two-for-one Wednesdays.
