Website Update

You may have noticed when you come here that the website has had a complete re-design. We have some new features in store as well including a new events calendar which will be coming in the next few days, and eventually a members area (this is still a while off however).

The new website design is also more accessible for mobile devices and or smaller screens such as tablets or for people who need to adjust their zoom settings.

If you come across any issues or problems, please feel free to let us know using the contact page.

We hope to see both familiar and new faces again soon!

We also will be attending Supanova next month (hopefully it will still be going ahead) and are currently in discussions with Oz-Comic Con to be part of their event later this year.

COVID-19: Meetings and Events Cancelled Until Further Notice

Like many other events around the country and world, we have decided to cancel our upcoming meetings, not only in view of the restrictions put in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19 but to ensure the safety and health of our members and attendees. At this time is is not known how long the restrictions will last for, but our April meeting will be cancelled and most likely the May meeting. We will also not be running any TARDIS Trips until further notice.

Once we know it is safe to schedule our meetings and events again, we will post the information here as well as on our Social Media channels.

On behalf of the committee of the DWCV, we hope everyone is keeping safe and we look forward to seeing you all again when this state of emergency has passed. In the meantime, it’s a good time to re-watch some of your favourite episodes while people are restricted to mostly staying indoors.

Its our 40th Anniversary!

For 40 years the DWCV has been there for Whovians of all ages to get together to discuss, debate and celebrate their favourite TV show. There has been many highs and lows over the past 40 years and through it all the club has been there.

We invite all members, non-members, friends and fans to join us on a celebratory boat cruise.

Series 11 #RaiseYourHoods Campaign

#RaiseYourHoods is a new social media campaign being run by the BBC to not only promote the upcoming series, but to also promote solidarity, a positive message and to recognise people who have influenced us in our lives. Whoever your hero is – whether they be from Doctor Who, from your real life, or anywhere else, #ItsAboutTime to #RaiseYourHoods and let everyone know.

All you need to do is post a photo of yourself (or even you and your friends) wearing a hoodie using the hastags #RaiseYourHoods and #ItsAboutTime. Briefly explain who is important to you, then tag a friend who you would like to nominate to join in and help spread the word! You can also tag #DoctorWho and #ABCTV as well if you wish.

The campaign is running now until the series 11 premiere on Monday (and beyond).

The Woman Who Fell to Earth in Cinemas

Sharmill Films have announced that selected cinemas will be screening the opening episode of season 11 – The Woman Who Fell to Earth. The episode will be Jodie Whittaker’s first full appearance as The Doctor.

The cinema presentation will also include behind the scenes footage including interviews with Jodie Whittaker, showrunner Chris Chibnall and the episode’s director Jamie Childs.

For more information and a list of selected cinemas, visit the Sharmill Films website.

Update: thanks to Sharmill Films, we have 10 double passes to the episode to give away. Simply come along to our meeting this weekend to win one of these passes. We will also be holding a TARDIS Trip to see this screening once we find out the session times.

Lords of Time 4 – with Catherine Tate

First Contact Conventions have announced that they will be holding a one-off convention with Catherine Tate (who played companion Donna Noble) in November. Coinciding with when Catherine Tate is in town for her stage show on November 17th, this event will have more of a Doctor who focus, with a Q&A panel, autograph opportunities and photo opportunities. The event will be limited to 300 places, with both General and VIP tickets available (General $90/VIP $400).

For more information and to purchase tickets, visit the First Contact Conventions website.

Please note that November 17th was when we had scheduled our Christmas/Anniversary Party meeting this year, so we will most likely need to move this to the following week (which is actually the usual week we have this meeting, but we had to move it due to our venue being unavailable). Please check back on the events page for any date and/or venue changes.

Save the Date – October 6th!

The BBC (and ABC) have announced the air-date of season 11 of Doctor Who. The show will move to a new night, airing on Sunday night in the UK, meaning that it will shown on ABC TV on Monday night in Australia.

No mention as to whether iView will be streaming the episodes at the same time as the UK as yet, however the ABC has announced that Whovians will return this year, airing on ABC Comedy straight after Doctor Who.

Who’s Who Postponed

Unfortunately Culture Shock Event’s Doctor Who convention has been postponed until 2019. No date has been set, but they are looking at a mid-2019 date. According to their Facebook post, the event and their Star Trek event – Final Frontiers, has been postponed due to a lack of ticket sales.

“After discussions with the guests and their agents, in order to secure the guests we would like as well as ensuring the best event for fans and the guests, it has been decided to postpone both Final Frontiers and Who’s Who until 2019. Current ticket sales unfortunately did not make them viable to run at this time. With more time, and a little more organisational detail, we feel that the move will make for better events in the end.”
