We are very excited to announce a Special meeting event celebrating Doctor Who’s 60th anniversary.
Join us on Wednesday 15th November for an evening with Frazer Hines live at the Hub in Docklands. Frazer will talk to us about his time as Jamie McCrimmon in Doctor Who.
The event starts at 7pm and tickets are $50 each.
Frazer will be doing autographs and cost will be announced shortly.
There is a limited number of places available but we hope you can all join us for an amazing evening.
You can buy tickets via PayPal to treasurer@dwcv.org.au or http://paypal.me/DWCV/50 – in comments type Frazer Hines and ticket holders name. Tickets are also available in person at upcoming club events.
The second half of the year is looking bigger on the inside for the Club.
Last month we had the intra-club meeting to get to know several other local fan clubs. Then we were at Bendi-Con with the Bendigo Whovians and the Central Victorian Dalek Council – 9 full-sized Daleks (and a few baby ones) met more Doctors around the convention than you could poke a Sonic at. The August edition of Sonic (#54) also went out to members, and we’re building to a bumper December issue which will cover 2013-2023 and the anniversary.
Tomorrow afternoon is our September meeting at The Hub, chatting about the Christopher Eccleston era.
We also plan to be at PopCon in Ballarat on September 16, Mill Park Library LIB-CON on October 21st, Katy Manning Live in Parkville on October 22nd, the Melbourne Collectors Market in Reservoir on October 29, and OzCC Xmas Edition at MCEC on Dec 9-10. Plus of course our own Xmas Party is back at the Hub on November 18 – and that might not be everything…
And in the middle of all that we have the 60th anniversary and 3 new specials to watch.
Sonic issue #52 should be finding its way to Digital members tonight.
Classic members – you can pick up your copy from the club’s table in The Alley at Supanova Melbourne over this weekend. Otherwise, it will be sent out early next week.
If you’re not a member yet – why not come over and visit our table, join us, and grab a photo with the TARDIS!
Unfortunately Lords of Time 5 will not go ahead in Melbourne this weekend, as Colin Spaull’s flights have been delayed and he won’t make it in time. First Contact Conventions have refunded tickets. https://fb.watch/iKLyGat9Hj/
We’ll see you at our March 11 meeting at the Hub, then Supanova in April and hopefully Lords of Time 6 in May!
Due to members wanting to attend a Doctor Who trivia evening in Melbourne tomorrow evening, please note the change to the scheduled Williamstown meetup.
The Australia Day parade and therefore our usual picnic won’t go ahead. Instead we’ll meet up for lunch at Monzarella Italian Restaurant, 231 Nelson Pl, Williamstown from 12:30 PM – 2:30 PM, and then wander around Williamstown in the afternoon. https://www.facebook.com/events/1398520267585395
Doctor Who is entering its 60th year. Does your knowledge expand all the way to ‘Gallifrey’? Grab your friends and ‘fam’ for a night of ‘mindbending’ fun. The Rubber Chicken boasts 12 tap beers, a wide wine selection and enough spirits to kill an ‘Abzorbalovian’. Restaurant opens at 5pm and the first question drops at 7.30pm. Winners take home drink prizes, comedy show tickets and even a stand-up comedy course ticket worth $660.
What a month it’s been… we’ve had Jodie’s farewell in The Power of the Doctor, the news that the show will move to Disney+ next year (great potential but a sad loss for the ABC), a Guinness World Record for William Russell, and the announcement of Millie Gibson as new companion Ruby Sunday.
Just yesterday we had birthday messages from David Tennant and Catherine Tate, new art of Tennant and all the Doctors, a reveal of a special new logo for the 60th, and an announcement from Big Finish of an eight-part adventure released next year featuring the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th Doctors.
For members – Sonic Screwdriver issue #49 has been sent out this week, and new membership cards for digital members are on the way now.
Our Christmas party for this year has also been added to the upcoming events – hopefully we’ll see you on December 10 for an extended meeting at The Hub.
For 40 years the DWCV has been there for Whovians of all ages to get together to discuss, debate and celebrate their favourite TV show. There has been many highs and lows over the past 40 years and through it all the club has been there.
We invite all members, non-members, friends and fans to join us on a celebratory boat cruise.
Sharmill Films have announced that selected cinemas will be screening the opening episode of season 11 – The Woman Who Fell to Earth. The episode will be Jodie Whittaker’s first full appearance as The Doctor.
The cinema presentation will also include behind the scenes footage including interviews with Jodie Whittaker, showrunner Chris Chibnall and the episode’s director Jamie Childs.
Update: thanks to Sharmill Films, we have 10 double passes to the episode to give away. Simply come along to our meeting this weekend to win one of these passes. We will also be holding a TARDIS Trip to see this screening once we find out the session times.
First Contact Conventions have announced that they will be holding a one-off convention with Catherine Tate (who played companion Donna Noble) in November. Coinciding with when Catherine Tate is in town for her stage show on November 17th, this event will have more of a Doctor who focus, with a Q&A panel, autograph opportunities and photo opportunities. The event will be limited to 300 places, with both General and VIP tickets available (General $90/VIP $400).
Please note that November 17th was when we had scheduled our Christmas/Anniversary Party meeting this year, so we will most likely need to move this to the following week (which is actually the usual week we have this meeting, but we had to move it due to our venue being unavailable). Please check back on the events page for any date and/or venue changes.
