The Whovian Parade 2017 @ Carlton Gardens
Nov 26 @ 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm

For the fourth year running, the Whovian Parade will be on again, for fans of Doctor Who to show off their Whovian pride through the streets of Melbourne!

To celebrate the anniversary of the airing of the very first episode of the very first serial of “Doctor Who” way back in 1963, starring William Hartnell as the very first Doctor, all fans are invited to come along and parade their pride for the legacy it spawned.

Please keep in mind that this is a family-friendly event, costumes and behaviour should be in accordance to this.

Those not wishing to participate in the parade, are free to stay at the Carlton Gardens, as this year’s parade route will be slightly different to previous years and will be ending back at the Carlton Gardens.

John Barrowman in Concert @ Hamer Hall
Jan 16 @ 7:00 pm

“Anything Goes” at a John Barrowman concert.

Exclusive to Melbourne, spend an intimate evening of songs, stories and laughter with the incomparable John Barrowman. From West End leading man to time-travelling hero, John is the epitome of entertainment.
Famous for his portrayal as the charming Captain Jack Harkness in BBC’s Doctor Who, John’s character was so popular he was given his own hugely successful spin-off, Torchwood, and starred as Malcolm Merlyn in five seasons of Arrow.

When it comes to the stage, John’s musical theatre career has seen him star in many West End shows, including Anything Goes, Miss Saigon, The Phantom Of The Opera and La Cage Aux Folles.

With boundless energy and an incredible voice to match, John’s charismatic stage presence will leave you breathless, with a smile as big as John’s on your face.

From Sting to Sondheim, Cole Porter to Barry Manilow, Big Band to Motown, join John for a raucous repertoire of beloved classics (with a few surprises in between).

Australia Day Parade and Picnic @ Queen Victoria Gardens
Jan 26 @ 11:00 am

The Doctor Who Club of Victoria has again been asked to be part of the Australia Day Street Parade**.

The parade starts at 11:00am, however we recommend arriving a little earlier as good positions tend to get snapped up! Come and support us, along with seeing many other cultural and special interest groups from around Melbourne.

With the success of the previous year, this will again be a TARDIS trip, with a picnic afterwards. Members, fans, family and friends are welcome to join us for a picnic afterwards. Bring a blanket or a chair and a picnic lunch for a relaxing afternoon with other Doctor Who fans! We’ll even be having a Whovian game of cricket!

Click the image below for a map of the location where you can find us:

Australia-Day-Picnic-Map

We will also be manning our phone on the day though, so if you can’t find us, we can give you directions. 🙂

We are looking to start the picnic after midday (we will also have some committee members there early to set up and get our spot, so feel free to come by any time).

**If you are interested in joining us for the actual parade, places are limited. You must be wearing either Doctor Who related cosplay (Torchwood, Class, etc are also acceptable), or Doctor Who clothing such as a T-shirt or scarf. As there is a restriction on the number of people who will be able to part of the parade, preference will be given to cosplayers. Contact us to register!

March DWCV Meeting: Heroes and Companions @ The Hub Docklands
Mar 10 @ 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Doctor Who wouldn’t be the same without it’s heroes and companions. Companions allow us – the viewer – to have a human connection to the time-travelling alien. While heroes come in all forms – human or alien – and can be found helping The Doctor..

This month we take a look at some of those who can be called The Doctor’s friends.

We will be running a couple of discussion panels on companions and heroes. We look back at the companions and heroes over the years. Followed by a countdown of the top 20 companions.

There will also be a wrap up of the 2017 Christmas special. What we liked and didn’t like about it, and what we thought of Jodie Whittaker’s first appearance as The Doctor.

Meeting theme and information may be subject to change without notice.
